Lucy SM Johnston is a Central St. Martin’s graduate and award-winning British artist born and working in London.
An established portrait artist specialising in graphite (www.shutterandsketch.com) she uses a variety of mediums including painting and photography for her own personal work.
Her art is a bridge between the mythological and the contemporary, her unique signature style and hyperreal colour palette bringing a deeper sense of meaning to the everyday.
Unafraid to approach her subjects playfully with humour whether she is dealing with the inner thoughts of pedigree kittens, Jaguar gods or the influence of Memphis design, her practice challenges our relationship to nostalgia and pop culture.
Her work can be found in collections in the UK and abroad and has been featured in The Times, The Telegraph, Livingetc. the Big Issue, Campaign magazine. She will dance for and at wine if pointed in the right direction. A certain chord change in jazz makes her retch.
