Sophie Polyviou

British/Cypriot, b.1986

A good photograph leaves the salt of the sea on your tongue without getting your feet wet.

BIOGRAPHY

Foxtrot Lightning is the name for creative projects by Sophie Polyviou- artist/photographer/maker now based in London, originally from the Mediterranean and forever drawn back to the sea.

I use my camera to keep my eyes open and an ear to the ground. Whether looking at landscapes or people, the camera becomes a tool for meditative observation, a way of approaching the unknown and the overly familiar, trying to capture it as it slides between memory and artefact. Photography is the means for focusing in awe and appreciation on the unpolished beauty that surrounds us every day, and sharing that with others.

My images have been published in the Guardian, the Independent, Hackney Gazette and Time Out, exhibited at The Bishopsgate Institute, Stour Space & Rich Mix.

With over 10 years experience supporting other artists in all facets of their creative projects, from developing projects to hands-on making, publishing & exhibiting work, I am now engaging those skills in forging my own fun.
