BIOGRAPHY
Willie Nash was born and raised in New York, and a photographer since age 14. Since 1993 he pursued a career in fashion photography, working on art in his free-time. Moving to London in 2007, he decided to concentrate on his art. All cultures, ancient and modern, contribute to his scrapbook of ideas. He manipulates and layers concepts to create his own “epics”. He considers them u-chronistic relics of a utopian theatre performing a bleakly comedic “nature show” about human culture. After photographing these staged events, he once again removes the images from traditional photography using unconventional mounting/printing methods (ie: mounting prints in plaster w/cracks to appear as ancient frescos or mounting on Japanese scroll paper). Willie’s sculptural work is an interconnected mesh of ideas (visual and text based) that often results in ambiguous or absurd objects. Works often play on two logics that are independently credible yet, when combined, create tension or absurdity.
