Felstead Art is pleased to present The Room Where I Am Not, an exhibition of new paintings by Anna Sudbina from the Interior of the Mind series. The series explores the relationship between space, time, and memory and is aimed at portraying the experience of remembering and forgetting.

Anna’s technique, the act of abstracting and breaking her compositions, visualises the idea of memory. Lines and colours, the breakdown of perspectives, the purposeful addition or omission of human presence – her paintings reflect how we remember moments in time. A memory is never a complete picture, it’s a fragmented recollection of places, colours, objects, sensations, scents, and people. We remember specific elements of a memory, those that our minds wish to remember, whilst forgetting others.

The Room Where I Am Not marks an evolutionary moment is Anna Sudbina’s Interior of the Mind series. With a shifting focus to the memory of scent, each artwork recollects a particular fragrance tied to the space in question. This discourse investigates the subconscious and nostalgia, encouraging the viewer to contemplate the deep connection we all place on the relationship between scent and memor
