The Vengeful Hare, 2021
Category: Sinem Reynolds
Sinem Reynolds is a self-taught painter, sculptor, illustrator, creative writer, graffiti artist, workshop host and exhibition instillator. She lives with multiple invisible disabilities and uses art as a tool to work through her chronic pain. Following her intuitive guidance to obtain moments of peace within a state of flow and act as a creative catalyst. Her alien and cybernetic forms allude to her inner disconnect from self as well as a reflection on our distancing from nature and climate change action – using fantasy form to highlight these absurdities and our collective disdain toward them.
Her pieces grapple with her sense of identity, agency and conflict with our progressive detachment from nature. Sinem challenges this with surreal landscapes and fluid alien forms that are an amalgamation of cybernetic and natural elements. Depicting many creatures with their third eye open, alluding to our ability to transcend beyond dark environments – both internal and external by embracing the surreal and sometimes macabre.
Sinem has been painting murals since 2020 for community spaces. Uprooting our expectations of urban environments by incorporating animals, bugs and plants once native to the area that have been displaced due to urbanisation. Challenging viewers’ sense of responsibility and reminding us that community consciousness can be elevated through authentic action as an act of love for all.
As a multidisciplinary artist, she has also cultivated communities through accessible creative workshops that range from painting to sculpture and movement practices, incorporating somatic breath work and archetypal tools to create therapeutic rituals that cultivate reflection and connection to the self through our art whilst challenging our own critical lens.
Sinem’s work can be found at Rule Zero, Two More Years, The Old Baths, East Wick Kids Nursery, community grounds and urban street spaces throughout London.
