Jenny Gordon is a visual artist and filmmaker based in London. She graduated from an MA Fine Art course at Chelsea College of Art and Design, London in 2009. Gordon has exhibited extensively internationally and in the U.K.
Jenny’s work has been included in exhibitions such as, Space Studios 2022, Jamaican Biennale 2019, solo show at Rich Mix 2019, Red Art Gallery 2018, Oaxaca Mexico 2018, ICA Biennale 2018, Notting Hill Arts Club London 2016, Hackney Shop 2015, Islip Museum New York 2014. She received Arts Council funding in 2012-2017 to deliver arts projects in London and Kingston, Jamaica. Her work examines concepts of identity, isolation and alienation through the medium of painting, collage film and installation.
Jenny’s practice asks questions about how we inhabit the world both physically and emotionally, by drawing upon her experiences as a woman of mixed-race origin, with dyslexia and dyspraxia. This forms the foundations of her enquiry into the dislocations of personal identity and physical belonging. Gordon uses elements of nature and the anatomy of the body to symbolise the fragility of the human condition. She has developed a visual vocabulary which moves between concealment and revelation; that permeates my optimistic but tharwaoften thwarted attempts at communication.
