BIOGRAPHY
Wafa Love is a Tunisian self-taught artist. Over the last 10 years, she has been painting from her North London studio and made a splash with a sensational debut solo show at Hoxton Gallery in 2021. Not one to hide, she has been making a name for herself as a rising star for the fearlessness and freedom she brings to her work. Wafa paints with explosive energy and abandon, approaching every canvas with a sense of urgency and physicality as if something vital inside is craving expression without fear or restraint. Her work is inspired by London’s Underground dance music scene, East London warehouse parties and childhood memories. She expresses her energy and restlessness with an almost childish, unprepossessing curiosity and adventure.
She uses the medium of paint to channel her life experiences and the emotions that can’t be put down in words. Working with acrylic, spray paint, oil pastels and paint, her style, is both raw and witty. The result is vibrant, bold, original and gestural, with a playful twist through the appearance of cheeky characters that hold the viewer in suspense.
