BIOGRAPHY
Working with the idea of memory, Rita’s work explores the connections and the ruptures it creates. While creating abstract images that vary from large to intimate scale, she allows for the creative mark-making process to create large and gestural images and layers of colour, which are then combine with small and intimate, selective abstract imagery. By relating the concept of memory, as an act of making and unmaking, of construction and deconstruction, addition and subtraction, Rita explores this notion of painting as a mark that gets left behind, acting as an act of remembrance. She focuses on what is forgotten, as an exploration of the notion of accumulation and disappearance, order and chaos, surface and depth and fragmentation, while exploring the idea of the disappearing and replaceable mark, and how the image itself becomes nothing more than a recreated memory. Rita is based in London.
