BIOGRAPHY
Mackenzie is an artist and actor born in Australia, he received his undergraduate degree in Fine Art from The Queensland College of Art in 2003. This was completed on scholarship at The Exeter College of Art. In 2005 he took a Masters in Acting at East 15 Acting School. His CV includes two solo shows and work as technical staff at The Queensland College of Art. He has had a studio in Hackney Wick for over 13 years.
Mackenzie’s quirky, sometimes satirical and often allegorical work draws as much from the history of landscape painting as it does from carnival and protest and propaganda. With a practice traversing drawing, painting, text, photography and performance Mackenzie has explored (sub)urban dystopia, repression and body politics, capitalism, consumption and what these things leave behind…
Mackenzie often makes idiosyncratic, large-scale work but more recently has been exploring smller, more commercial pieces using pastels as well as photographic work.
